Grain and potash highlight spring cargo volume at Port of Thunder Bay

Port activity this spring has been buoyed by strong volumes of grain and potash, and cargoes handled at Keefer Terminal.

Cargo shipments from the beginning of the season to April 30 were 11% higher than the 5-year average.  The 1.3 million metric ton cargo tally is down 9% from the same period in 2024. The 2024 shipping season was the best on record in more than 25 years.

The Port attracts inbound marine cargo to Keefer Terminal to generate jobs and economic activity, and to increase the shipping capacity available for outbound bulk shipments of grain and potash.
