Mari-Tech was created by the Canadian Institute of Marine Engineering (CIMarE) in 1976 and is the premier event for the marine engineering community in Canada. The conference has earned a respected position as a neutral, non-political event devoted to engaging the private sector, government and academia.

Held annually, Mari-Tech is hosted in turn by each of CIMarE’s seven branches; Mari-Tech 2024 is a collaboration between the CIMarE Newfoundland & Labrador Branch and the SNAME Canadian Atlantic section and will take place in St. John’s, NF.

This year’s theme is NAVIGATING SUSTAINABLE MARINE TRANSPORTATION. Just as mariners use navigation as a safe means of direction, we too as a larger marine community must ascertain where we are and where we are going in terms of ever-changing challenges facing maritime professionals. The rocks and shoals of increasing competition for diminishing supplies are a challenge we all face, and we have no choice but to navigate.

Sustainable solutions are needed to meet the current realities and challenges we face globally in ship construction, vessel operation and maintenance. These factors are dependent on materials, knowledge and skills, all of which are trending towards increasing demand and decreasing supply. New and advancing technologies offer astounding potential but need to be rigorously tested and approved before deployment. Our sponsors are from diverse disciplines but all must follow a similar course which includes concept, design, testing, evaluations, approvals and finally marketing.
