From Colin's Desk

Hello,

I’m thrilled that we will soon have our very first face-to-face CMISA members’ only event to be held on May 16th the night before Mari-Tech gets underway in Niagara Falls! If you are intending on joining us, please register so that we know who is attending. If any of your colleagues are attending the show, please make sure that they are aware of the opportunity and get them registered. We are pleased to announce that our member Genoa Design International will be one of our AGM sponsors. If you want to learn more about Genoa Design, please read our Sponsor Profile below, and make sure you connect with CEO Gina Pecore at the event.

On Easter weekend, I managed to get away to enjoy a little tourist time in Quebec City. But before relaxing and exploring the old city (and the great food!), I had the great pleasure of meeting with the awesome folks from Ocean Group as well as spending a short while exploring the venerable CCGS Louis St Laurent currently in drydock at Davie. The team there is hard at it, working hand in hand with the coast guard crew giving the storied icebreaker a nip and a tuck (actually a major VLE) before having her back in the water in July.

Should you wish to become a member of CMISA and enjoy attractive benefits like our AGM reception and other member events, please reach out to us at support@cmisa.ca.

Finally, as always, please take note of our new Job Board and a) take advantage of it if your company has an opening and b) send links to friends and family so that we can attract new people into our sector. We all need the help!

Stay safe and I am looking forward to seeing you soon,

Colin Cooke

President and CEO

Sponsorship Profile Spotlight:

Genoa Design International

The Canadian Marine Industries and Shipbuilding Association (CMISA) is pleased to announce that Genoa Design International is a sponsor of our upcoming Annual General Meeting and member meet-n-greet on May 16th in Niagara Falls. Our AGM is being held in conjunction with the 2022 Mari-Tech Conference, the first time in two years that this conference can be held in person. Genoa Design CEO, Gina Pecore will be the keynote speaker at this event, and is pleased to be able to connect, in person, with CMISA members and the Canadian marine sector at both events.

Genoa Design is a fast-growing production design and 3D ship modeling company that is transforming shipbuilding and long-term operations and maintenance. A Canadian company, Genoa Design has grown from a kitchen table business into an international enterprise which employs over 240 people in Mount Pearl, Vancouver, Halifax and New Orleans.

As today’s ships are becoming more complex, being able to experience a ship virtually is a huge boon to shipyards and indeed, the entire supply chain. 3D vessel simulations help save money, time and frustration in the construction process as well as in subsequent maintenance and refits. Genoa Design is proud to offer its expertise in developing fully integrated digital ships to vessels for the Canadian National Shipbuilding Strategy and commercial shipyards across North America.

Part of what makes Genoa Design so successful is that the company is underpinned with strong core values: Put People FirstCreate Lasting RelationshipsMake a DifferenceOwn ItLive Well, and Never Stand Still. These values are evident in the way that Genoa strengthens communities through meaningful investment. These investments provide direct, sustainable and collective benefits to the districts where team members and partners work and live.

What makes Genoa Design unique is the connection to community, the collaboration with partners and clients, and the constant innovation to stay at the forefront of technological developments.

We thank Genoa Design International for their support of CMISA’s AGM as we bring members together for the very first time under the CMISA banner.
