Hello, 

I’m still on a ‘people’ high after seeing so many members in person at the Mari-Tech Conference 2022 and at our own Annual General Meeting as well as at CANSEC last week. Once again, I would like to thank our AGM sponsors Genoa Design International Ltd, Duke Marine, Toromont Power Systems, and the Diversity Development Network of Canada for their support of our inaugural in-person event; we truly appreciated it. In this edition we highlight another AGM sponsor, Toromont Power Systems and we will return to our Member Spotlights next edition.

As part of our advocacy efforts on behalf of all our members, the Chair of the CMISA board, John Schmidt, spoke about the National Shipbuilding Strategy at the House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates (OGGO). He advised the committee that Canada’s procurement systems lack agility, innovation and execution, but that pragmatic and proven solutions from the commercial sector can help Canada build competitively, and he encouraged the committee to involve industry in the build process. I do encourage you to consider membership in CMISA as our organization grows in numbers and strength to provide you with opportunities to connect with each other. We heard the message clearly at our AGM that knowing more about what each of you are doing is a big benefit to members.

Toromont Industries Ltd. operates through two business segments: the Equipment Group and CIMCO. Toromont Power Systems, part of the Equipment Group, is an industry leader in the supply and integration of power generation solutions, including marine systems. Providing propulsion systems includes a lot more than just finding the right engine. Toromont Cat offers integrated solutions that considers all different technologies available and new ones under development, such as alternative fuel supply systems, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and electric/hybrid systems for Marine applications. Always considering the whole-cycle solution, one that considers all of the life-cycle costs, service and product support for all the equipment they supply. Using local suppliers is also important for Toromont and weighing all these various considerations ensure a higher uptime and helps save customers money for the lifespan of the operation of a vessel. All the while, new emerging technologies such as electrification and autonomous systems are always considered in order to bring the right solution to a customer.
