From Colin's Desk

Hello,

We are less than one week away from our very first face-to-face CMISA AGM for members which will be held on May 16th, the night before Mari-Tech gets underway in Niagara Falls, and I am so thrilled to meet you in person again! If you are intending on joining us, please register so that we know who is attending. If any of your colleagues are attending the show and would like to join us on Monday evening, kindly make sure that they are aware of the opportunity and get them registered too.

You may recall the Member Spotlight we published in On Watch at the end of March, featuring Marine Transportation Services Syncrolift in Hay River, NWT. Currently Hay River is experiencing flooding, and some residents are being evacuated. Our thoughts are with the people of Hay River, who are stepping up for each other and are doing what they can to support and save their community.

We are happy to announce that CMISA member Duke Marine Technical Services is one of our AGM sponsors. Please read more about Duke Marine’s expertise in recruitment in shipbuilding – we all know how challenging it is at the moment to find qualified staff and Duke brings deep relationships and decades of experience to support you in shoring up your ranks.

We are very pleased to welcome our newest members Barnacle Systems Inc and New Way Diesel to the CMISA family!

Should you wish to become a member of CMISA and enjoy attractive benefits like our Member of the Week promos and newsletter member spotlights as well as our in-person AGM and reception, please reach out to us at support@cmisa.ca.

Finally, as always, please take note of our new Job Board and a) take advantage of it if your company has an opening and b) send links to friends and family so that we can attract new people into our sector. We all need the help!

Stay safe and I am looking forward to seeing you soon,

Colin Cooke

President and CEO

Sponsorship Profile Spotlight:

Duke Marine Technical Services

Duke Marine Technical Services is a highly specialized firm focusing on high demand industries: shipbuilding and oil & gas. From all corners of the shipbuilding sector, we have heard of labour shortages and about how difficult it is to find qualified candidates. This is where Duke Marine comes in with its 20-years of established and strong relationships with people and companies. Duke Marine understands the unique needs of its clients and helps them find the best talent available, from entry-level positions all the way up to executive roles.

Duke Marine was founded over 20 years ago by Sonia Logue and her father, John. As shipbuilding in Canada has started to flourish once again, Duke Marine is proud to help staff projects such as the Royal Canadian Navy’s Joint Support Ships and the Canadian Coast Guard Polar Icebreakers. Many people who work in the sector bring strong family and community connections to shipbuilding. Duke Marine understands this passion for shipbuilding that runs through these families and communities, passed along from generation to generation. What is particularly rewarding for Duke Marine is to have the children of some of the company’s first clients reaching out today to Duke Marine to help find careers in the sector. This speaks to the deep relationships that Duke Marine has forged and draws upon to find the candidates each opportunity needs.

Duke Marine is proud to reflect strong Canadian values and is 100% Canadian. Duke Marine is female-led and operated, and actively promotes women, members of Indigenous communities, and transitioning military members to bring the very best talent, diverse viewpoints, and life experiences forward.

We are very pleased to acknowledge Duke Marine as a sponsor of CMISA’s AGM and we thank them for their support!
